The James Brand The Carter
About The James Brand The Carter
The James Brand Carter found its roots in Carter Cave arrowheads, made by Native Americans in yeARS gone by. Just like those antique tools that have stood the test of time, the Carter will never let you down. The simple and tough blade resists corrosion and is relatively easy to sharpen. The handle and backspacer pride good looks and a good grip. Tradition, utility, and heritage are all tuned to maximum with The James Brand Carter. The James Brand The Carter has next-level features with exceptional build quality. There are different variations with unique handle materials and blade finishes. The Micarta on the Carter doesn't come pre-oiled, so the finish may appear uneven.

Not so great
After a few days of use and fidgeting the blade screw comes loose. The threads are loose enough that it happens no matter what you tighten it to. I have to use loctite to keep it manageable. The blade steel is subpar giving the price but the design is simple and functional. I want to love the knife but the loosening of the blade is unacceptable.
EDC with class - replaced my mini bugout as my EDC
I love this knife! It is about the size of a mini bug out with similar action, but oh so buttery smooth! The VG-10 edge is very sharp out of the box. The extra deep carry clip has flush mounted screws, so nothing to catch on your pocket as you pull it. The thumb disc is gentle and wont wear your skin, or need you to use your thumb nail on it. You don't really even need it, as it… read more smoothly flips open with the axis lock pulled back and a wrist flip. I can't say enough about this knife.
Bummer
-blade off center and hard to center
-action worse (not smooth, not crisp or snappy, not fun to open) than almost every budget flipper I've owned
-thumb disc is very slippery can't use it with wet or damp hands.
-lock binds on micarta
-it's missing a screw by design. The knife literally comes with an open screw hole.
-apparently it came with a lanyard loop stuffed…

somewhere in the packaging, but it doesn't tell you about it anywhere. Neither retailer or manufacturer mention this feature. I had to watch a youtube video to discover it.
-Decent quality micarta and quite sharp.
-Good ergonimocs.
Love it. Great in the hand.
I love this knife and it has become my EDC. The micarta feels so good in the hand, great texture. It's a good size for EDC, not too big, not too small. Sits low in the pocket with the deep clip. Opens and closes easily with a strong lock.
Great Overall
The build construction, ergonomics, looks, action are on point. No hot spots. I did have to put a lot of locktight for no blade play. I don't carry with the pocket clip bc it gets scratched up easily, I carry it on a pocket organizer with a lanyard. The big issue is the blade steel, I would prefer something better for the price. I carry this as my secondary so I don't notice the… read more VG10. But it's there and kinda sucks to have that steel.
Solid well built
Overall a solid well built knife. This was my first James Brand and I am impressed with the construction. Blade opens smooth and I love the handle material. Overall excellent knife.
Solid EDC
This is my second James Brand knife, I also have the Folsom. I am a fan of the simplistic features with the aesthetic of the knives.
-The clip on this knife catches on the top of my pocket every time I grab it. Deep carry position is nice though (super deep).
-Thumb stud/disc is a little slick if cold out or wet fingers. Then I just flip it open instead if in those…

situations.
-Overall nice and tight though. blade centered perfect when closed on mine.
-Perfect size for me when open, not large at all, does well with all my typical daily tasks, cardboard boxes (Christmas gift packages for the kids),pretty light.
Falls Short
The thumb disc is the worst opening mechanism I’ve ever used.
James Brand The Carter
This a well-made knife, smooth opening and solid, Chris Reeve-like lock up. Good value!
VG10???
Very nice design and I agree that this is an awesome EDC knife. I do think this blade deserves S30V steel for the price.
Clean & Sleek but Over Priced
This knife is comfortable in hand, looks great, is smooth, the blade grind is near perfect..... however
For the price, its a little high for G10 scales, VG-10 Steel and the mine does have a little front to back play.
This is James Brands first time with an "axis lock" so hopefully the QA only gets better.
