Front flipper fun
What a gem. The action on the Mckenna is phenomenal. It's so fun to fidget with. It is crisp and smooth right out of the box. Also the thin flat grind cuts great. I wouldn't think to use it for any heavy tasks. That isn't what it's for though. It is small and light weight. It's sits great in your pocket, but it fits nicely in the hand as well.
First Civivi knife...definitely not disappointed!
Great lightweight EDC with a very slicey, functional blade shape. Although this is my first front flipper, I learned how to open it very quickly. It is surprisingly smooth and easy to open. It is almost undetectable in your pocket given how small and lightweight it is. Since it is small and lightweight, it wouldn't be my first choice for a beater/work knife. Plus, it is just too… read more nice a knife to take it out and abuse it. Very happy with my first Civivi knife and would recommend it to others.
Perfect! I couldn't ask for more.
The Al Mar folder I’ve carried for forty years is almost exactly the same size and edge shape as the McKenna, but light years different in design and materials. It stays in the drawer these days while I fiddle with my McKenna. I agree with everything that Cate D. says about the McKenna, but there are a few things I can add.
The first thing is that this is my second McKenna…

(I lost my first one) so I knew how smooth the action can be. My second McKenna was not as smooth as the first one, so the first thing I did was take it apart and clean and lube it with Nano-Oil 85wt. It made such a difference that I recommend that this be the first thing anyone does with this knife.
The second thing is that, like Cate, I thought the pocket clip design could be improved and would be too tight to slip onto my jeans pocket easily so I loosened its tension and that’s how I lost my first knife. The screws never really interfere with seating the knife on the pocket anyway.
The third thing is just how sharp this knife can be. Both mine were very sharp out of the box, but a few licks on the white ceramic stone really brings the edge to its full potential. The blade grind is super fine (I have heard reviewers say they measured .010” behind the edge, but I measured .013” on my first and .014” on the second) but D2 is tough enough that as long as you use it more like a scalpel than a cleaver it shouldn’t be a problem.
I have to quote Cate here: “Civivi quality control puts other companies to shame.” Both my McKennas were identical in fit and finish, which is to say, perfect. This is my favorite knife of all time.
Favorite EDC
This is my favorite EDC pocket knife. The Mckenna front flipper has a very high fidget factor. The detent is perfect and the action is super snappy and satisfying. Civivi quality control puts other companies to shame. The action is smooth and the blade drops surprisingly well for how light it is. Love the ffg and wharncliff blade shape. The tip is a little thin, but no problems… read more so far. The green is a lot prettier in person, definitely my favorite OD green I've seen on a knife. The G-10 scales have enough texture but won't tear up your pocket. The pocket clip is great but could be improved if they had recessed the screws. Super light-weight, non-aggressive knife that disappears in the pocket. Highly recommend.
